BIOGRAPHY
CORNELIUS MD "THE LOVE DOCTOR”
Very few music artists operate like Cornelius MD, The Love Doctor. Cornelius MD brings to the stage an intoxicating, romantic and captivating voice that closely resembles “The Maestro” himself Barry White with an injection of Isaac Hayes.
As a young man growing up in Gary, Indiana, he always had a passion for music. Cornelius MD was active in the boys glee club, mixed chorus and the barber shop quartet at Gary Roosevelt High School.
While at Gary Roosevelt High School, he excelled in basketball and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. However, his love for music could not be ignored and he was eager to continue his music career.
Inspired and influenced by the late, great Barry White, unmistakably Lou Rawls and Melvin Franklin of the Temptations. Today, Cornelius MD is recognized as the most gifted baritone vocalist since the late, great Barry White and ironically he and Barry White share the same birthday, September 12th.
Early in his career Cornelius MD was sought after by many vocal groups. He eventually became a member of The Exquisites. The group later disbanded and Cornelius MD took this opportunity to launch his career as a solo artist and formed The Loose Booty Rhythm Section. Members of this group also disbanded to pursue separate careers.
However, Cornelius MD persisted and with new energy and excitement started a new band. While struggling with what to name the group, the new band acquired its name quite by accident. While rehearsing one day, a Bible fell from a piano and landed on the floor opening to Acts 10-1. In this passage, the Bible spoke of a man named Cornelius who led a band of Italian rebels. Needless, to say the new band was destined to be named Cornelius MD and the Italian Band.
Cornelius MD’s musical talents as a writer, arranger and producer were now sought after by gospel and hip hop artists as well. He worked as musical director for Jerry Jones’ play, The Inquest of Sam Cook, rap artist, Shorty of the well-known group Lynch Mob and as road manager for gospel artist, Douglas Miller.
Itching to start his own thing, Cornelius MD decided to re-launch his career. He changed the band’s name to Cornelius MD and The MD Band and began traveling throughout the Midwest, the South and the West Coast promoting his latest single, “Anyway You Want It” which he wrote, arranged and produced.
In 2008, Cornelius MD signed with Domain Records one of the oldest and most prestigious record labels in America. Ironically, Tony Sepe, President of Domain Records was also Barry White’s manager and helped write one of Barry’s greatest hits, “My First, My Last, My Everything.”
Unfortunately, after signing with Domain Records, Tony Sepe became ill and passed away a short time later. During his time with Domain Records, Cornelius MD came to know and work with members of Barry White’s former band, The Love Unlimited Orchestra who marveled at Cornelius MD’s abilities and resemblance to the Maestro himself.
Steve Guillory, guitar player and writer of “Don’t Play Games” on Barry White’s last album. Emmitt North, guitar player who played 25 years with Barry White; Hence Powell who played keyboard for Barry White and DeLacy White who played drums. And last but not least, Mike Nunes, son of Larry Nunes, the man who discovered Barry White have endorsed Cornelius MD, the “Love Doctor ” as the only vocalist capable of carrying the torch, mantle, and legacy of the sexy and sultry sound of the baritone vocalist a void left since the departure of Barry White.
During the span of his vocal career, Cornelius MD has worked with three independent music labels: RMR of Philadelphia, Third Coast Records of Dallas Texas and FAVRS Records of Pomona, California, and Earfull Records, Washington, DC.
Cornelius MD has opened for some of the best Rhythm and Blues artists in the industry. Entertainers such as: Dionne Warwick, Ray, Goodman and Brown, The Chi-Lites, Johnny Taylor, Cuba Gooding’s Main Ingredient, The Dramatics, The Delphonics, and The Dells.
In recent years, Cornelius MD’s music has been recognized by one of R&B’s most legendary entertainment managers, Mr. Joe Douglas who manages the the world-reknown R&B group Frankie Beverly and Maze.
The Love Dcotor continues to work on his own prescription for love. His newest CD. “Cornelius MD, The Love Doctor “ has just been released and is designed to resuscitate any relationship.
