Samuel James is the newest addition on the artist roster at Round 2 Music label out of Riverside, CA., and he has been on deck honing his skills as a music artist for several years. He believes now, just like when the umpire calls the player off deck in baseball, it is his time to be “Batter Up!”.

Born in San Bernardino, California, Samuel’s love for music comes from his family. His grand father - on his mother’s side - was musically gifted at instruments, and his older brother is a talented musician. Samuel’s talent is with his vocals and songwriting which he is grateful for. He credits his mother mostly for his love of music because she introduced it to him at a very young age, and he was always surrounded by it in their household. He knew at age 7 after watching Michael Jackson’s “Moon Walker” movie, that music was what he was going to do.

Having worked with many styles of music, Salas doesn’t want to be pigeon holed by a particular genre of music artistically. “Music is just music”, Samuel says, “I don’t want to be tied down to one genre, but it could definitely be described as R&B/Hip-Hop.” Some of the artists Samuel likes are, Lucky Daye, Troy lanez, Summer Walker, Lil’ Mosey, and he feels his style is closest to Post Malone‘s artistry.

Samuel recently dropped his first mixed tape called “Rocket Into Space” which features his good friend, singer/songwriter, Elvia Cadena, who is also signed to the Round 2 Music label. Cadena introduced some of the tracks they did together on the mixed tape to label executives Charlie Perez and Melanie Andrews at Round 2 Music, “and I guess they were feeling the vibe, because they offered me a label deal. I owe that to Elvia for putting me on to them.”

The first single released off the “Rocket Into Space” mixed tape is called “Happiness” featuring Elvia Cadenena. The single was released on July 30th, 2020 to great reviews thus far and is available on all online digital platforms where music is sold.

As a songwriter, Samuel is always working on new music. Whether it’s for the label now, or for himself, he is always “lit” for writing music, something he feels is always growing and expanding his lyrical voice as a singer and a rapper.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in March of 2020, and a quarantine put in place shutting down venues for live performances, Salas had a “laundry list” of shows booked and was looking forward to playing to live audiences to promote the release of his mixed-tape. He says, “being on stage is an unfathomable feeling for me. It is probably half the reason why I do music. There is no place on earth I rather be than performing on stage for a live audience. It is the one place where I don’t have to define who I am. Although I have never played in front of thousands of people at one show - yet, I look forward to it in the very near future.”

With Samuel’s work ethic towards his craft and love of music, we believe he will be playing in front of throngs of adoring fans one day in the very near future.
